Bob Empson is White Maple Consulting’s founder and Principal Consultant. He has worked with over 250 UK and international organisations across the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors. This wide client experience, working in c.40 countries on 6 continents, spans global corporations and financial institutions, professional services firms, private businesses and entrepreneurial start-ups through to government agencies and a wide variety of member organisations, NGOs and charities. As a consultant he specialises in working with clients on strategy, change, marketing/brand and organisation/management development. He is also a seasoned executive/team coach and facilitator.

Bob’s career launched in 1981 with BP Oil International in the UK and Africa. He has now been a management consultant for nearly 40 years since joining a specialist strategy/marketing consultancy in 1985. He subsequently established the strategy/marketing consulting group of a UK professional services firm before joining another leading firm to set-up and manage its management consulting practice for 10 years. He founded White Maple Consulting in 2002.

Educated at the universities of Bristol (BSc, 1981), Warwick (Warwick Business School; MBA, 2001), and Reading (Henley Business School; Professional Certificate in Coaching, 2014), Bob is a former Fellow of the UK’s Institute of Consulting and was President in 2000 of its predecessor the Institute of Management Consultancy. He has also been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing. He was an academic tutor on the MBA programme at the highly acclaimed Warwick Business School for 10 years from 2003.

Bob was a Trustee/Director of the UK’s Stroke Association for 9 years to 2020; he acted as Vice Chair (interim), Chair of Audit/Risk Committee (interim) and as a member of Finance & General Purposes Committee. In early 2022 he was appointed Chair of the Board of Trustees of Age UK Kensington & Chelsea (a £3 million charity supporting older people in London). He was previously a non-executive director of Ascertiva Group Ltd (owned by the Electrical Safety Council, this was a c.£40 million turnover professional services business with joint ventures in the Americas and China/Asia) for 5 years until March 2011. In 2006 he co-founded and was Commercial Director of Cities in Sound Ltd, an online business which produced digital audio walking tours for European cities; he sold the enterprise in 2008. He is also involved with a specialist training business.

Bob lives in London. He is an endurance runner and coach; he has completed 25 marathons/ultra-marathons, including all six of the World Marathon Majors.
