Bob Empson is White Maple’s founder and Principal Consultant. He has advised c.250 UK and international organisations across the commercial, public and not-for-profit sectors. This wide client experience, working in nearly 40 countries on 6 continents, spans global corporations, professional service partnerships, private businesses and entrepreneurial start-ups through to government agencies and a variety of not-for-profit institutions, trade associations and charities.
Bob’s career started with British Petroleum in the UK and Africa. He became a management consultant in 1985 when he joined a specialist strategy and marketing consultancy. He subsequently established the strategy/marketing consulting group of a UK professional services firm before joining another major firm to lead its management consulting practice for 10 years. He founded White Maple Consulting in 2002. He tutored on the MBA programme at Warwick Business School for 10 years until 2014.
Educated at the universities of Bristol (BSc), Warwick (Warwick Business School; MBA), and Reading (Henley Business School; Professional Certificate in Coaching), Bob is a former Fellow (FIC) of the UK’s Institute of Consulting and a former President of its predecessor the Institute of Management Consultancy. He is also a former Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM).
Bob has been a Trustee/Director of the The Stroke Association since 2011; he has been Vice Chair (interim) and is currently a member of Audit & Risk Committee. For 5 years to 2011 Bob was a non-executive director of Ascertiva Group Ltd. He was co-founder in 2006 of Cities in Sound (an online venture producing and publishing tourist audio tours in European cities); the business was sold in 2008. He also has an interest in a specialist training business: Training Professional Guides.
